Bio: A founding member of Illinois Bone & Joint Institute, Dr. Thomas F. Gleason is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating spinal problems in adults and performing hip and knee joint replacements. Dr. Gleason is the son of an orthopedic surgeon and was inspired by the difference his father made in patients’ lives and the satisfaction it gave him. He keeps informed of the latest developments in his field through his work as a reviewer of articles submitted for publication to the research journal Spine and as an assistant clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago.
Profession: Hospitalist, now Senior Director of Medical Intelligence of Patient Centricity
Bio: Dr. Joo is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, '93, University of Illinois Medical School '97, and a combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency '01. He worked as a hospitalist for 20 years - serving patients who were admitted to and cared for in the hospital. He has worked with a wide range of patients, from the oldest patient who was born the year the Titanic sank, to his youngest who were born 3 months prematurely. He is currently working at Astellas Pharmaceuticals - where he serves as a Senior Director in the Medical Intelligence & Patient Insights division of Patient Centricity.
Profession: Retired Surgeon
Bio: Dr. Ashraf A Hilmy is a retired surgeon of general, trauma, vascular, advanced laparoscopic, robotic, and cosmetic surgery. He was the attending anesthesiologist at the Rio Grande Anesthesia Associates in Harlingen, Texas (1985-89), the attending surgeon at RGV Surgery PA (1994-2018), and the attending surgeon, professor of surgery at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (2018-19). Dr. Hilmy enjoys culinary arts, reading, photography, writing, travel, and volunteering. He has published several academic journals and is the author of the fascinating novel Health Care Reform, A Surgeon’s Perspective.

Bio: Dr. Menul Shah has been practicing Internal Medicine for over 20 years and is the current owner and President of Primary Care Providers, a multi-physician practice in Chicago. Dr. Shah hopes to share his journey and experiences as a doctor to give students a perspective on the life of a doctor and challenges faced by patients and seniors in our country today.
